There are 4 different "paths" from the CPU on the RZ/G3E SOM board to PCIe devices:

If the SOM Board has an onboard PCIe device like the DX-M1 AI accelerator chip then that is the only device on the PCIe bus. The PCIe bus is not even connected out to the MXM3 connector.

If there is no onboard PCIe device, then the S1 slider on the SOM Carrier Board selects the path:

The test below assumes that an Embedded Artists PCIe based M.2 Module is inserted in the M.2 E-connector (J35) as shown in the figure below.

Make sure that the S1 slider is in the default position.
U-Boot
PCIe currently not supported.
Linux
To see if the board is detected, use the lspci command.
